I am General (ret) Sir Jeremy Arbuthnot KCMG, VC, CGC, DSC, GCM, DCM, DSO.

I was born in 1895, and spent all my working life in the British Army. I fought in the trenches of France as a subaltern in World War 1, and, as a very senior officer I commanded brigades and divisions on most of the battlefields of World War 2. In peacetime I served in all the far lands of the British Empire, and later I served in the British diplomatic corps.

The raison d’etre of this web-log was to talk about books and films which, in my old age, took my fancy. But, in the summer of 2007, I killed a man - a fellow blogger, in fact - in America for insulting the Queen of England. Then, as the leader of my own men, I was responsible for killing yet more men in America. But it was unintentional. You have my word on this. However I haven’t turned myself or my men in, for I fear the police won’t see things our way.

Thus I hid out, and my men too, for two years in the basement of a demolished house in the state of Texas, in a city I didn't feel free to name for obvious reasons.

Tiring of America, we recently crossed over to Mexico.
